You got this!

Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
Matthew 5:5
“You got this!” These three simple words said at the right time can change the world. It doesn’t matter that it’s not grammatically correct. The sentiment is there, and it speaks volumes.
Have you ever been told, “You got this!” or received it in a text when you weren’t sure that you did? How did it feel to be seen and supported by someone who always has your back? Knowing that you’re not alone and a person you trust believes in you has the power to shift your spirit from unstable to ready to serve.
When I imagine sitting on the hillside during Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, I take what He says more seriously. What we now call the Beatitudes might be better translated as,: “Go be like this—it honors God, and He’s got your back.” Christ calls people to a radical way of living and loving as part of the heavenly Father’s kingdom on earth. Essentially, Jesus keeps telling people, “You got this!” when the way of the world says the opposite.
Think about it, “Blessed are the meek” makes no earthly sense until it’s said to you by our all-powerful yet humble, gentle, kind, and self-controlled Immanuel. Jesus taught and demonstrated what it’s like to remain strong and secure even when surrounded by unsettling situations and offensive people. Christ, the divine Son of God who chose to become human before dying on the cross for our sins, lived out meekness so that we could see firsthand that it has nothing to do with weakness. When the Lord says, “Blessed are the meek,” He means it and wants His followers to hear, “You got this…now and forever!”
Here’s the challenge: take Matthew 5:5 to heart. Read it. Hear it. Believe it. Cherish it. Live it. Don’t receive it just for yourself. Know that God is behind the meek, anywhere and everywhere, for eternity. And remember, part of inheriting the earth in the future means stewarding what the Lord gives you right here and now.
Today, be strengthened in spirit and go serve on God’s behalf wherever you work and with whomever you meet. Wear godly gentleness wherever you go and bring it into whatever needs arise. You got this!
Next Steps
What challenge is ahead of you today? Ask God for His strength and gentleness. Have a friend text you, “You got this!” so you can stay meek even when you feel weak.
