The pain of being gullible hit me as soon as I clicked the send button for the “get rid of your wrinkle cream.” I knew I fell for another scam on the internet. My husband would not be surprised that, yet again, I fell for the too-good-to-be-true promise on the internet.

Sometimes, I think to myself, “I’m a trustworthy person; shouldn’t everyone else be?” But we are all born sinners. Probably many of you reading this have had a trusted friend or loved one let you down. That kind of pain can sometimes last a lifetime.

But there is a person you can trust, and that person is Jesus Christ. He is 100 percent trustworthy, and His promises are true. I know this because the Bible tells us these true stories about how we can have peace during those rogue winds of life. Here are my top four promises and reasons we can trust our Heavenly Father (synopsis mine):

1. He sent his son, Jesus, who died on the cross for our sins and promises that we will have eternal life (John 3:16). 
2. If we trust Him and submit to Him, He will show us the right direction to go (Proverbs 3:5-6).
3. He will never leave us or say that we are not His children (Hebrews 13:5).
4. He makes us strong when we’re tired and gives us power when we are weak and scared (Isaiah 40:29). 

Do you still have doubts? Welcome to humankind. We do not easily trust. For that “perfect peace” David tells us about, it says that our minds and eyes should be steadfast. For me, that means reading the Bible, studying with my girlfriends weekly, going to church when the doors open, and keeping worship songs whirling around in my brain space. 

But what about when I feel totally stuck in a river of anxiety? 

I take a pen and write how He has been good to me in the dark nights of my soul. I read each statement and bow my head to thank Him for His promises—my trustworthy good, good Father.

Now, if He could do something about the crow’s feet by both of my eyes, I’d be grateful for that too—just kidding!

• Think about a trustworthy person in your life, examine their character traits, and tell them why this means so much to you.
• Study a book in the Bible where God clearly shows how He can be counted on. The books of Joshua and Daniel come to mind.
