Update Re: Mundhank Property
Willow Creek | January 6, 2025
Willow Creek Community Church has a practice of reviewing assets to best steward and maximize our resources. One such asset was 25 acres of land south of the main church property on Mundhank Road.
This land has been used by the church to support grounds maintenance over the years, and we do not have any long-term plans for it. We placed the land for sale in 2022 in an effort to achieve the highest and best use for it and maximize the value of this asset we hold. As multiple prospective buyers placed offers on it, we experienced a series of challenges that prevented a sale: the land is zoned for residential use without any indication of change, and the land has no access to Village utilities which limits the options for development. We have gone to significant lengths to explore remedies to these challenges, but the obstacles we face have ultimately led us to pursue disconnecting these 25 acres from the Village of South Barrington.
Willow Creek Community Church has been planted on 155 acres in the South Barrington community since our building opened in 1981 and has no intentions of separating our main campus from the Village. We have strong, long-standing relationships with South Barrington Village leadership. We will continue cultivating those relationships and working to be an asset in the community. The disconnection of this small parcel of land is no indication of our relationship with the Village or any future plans—it is simply out of a desire to maximize our assets to continue furthering the work of our church.
