God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them: Be fertile and multiply and fill the earth. Fear and dread of you shall come upon all the animals of the earth and all the birds of the air, upon all the creatures that move about on the ground and all the fishes of the sea; into your power they are delivered.

When I was nineteen, I was writing instinctively. That’s what I did. Others sketched or did music and the like. My innate purpose was to write. But at twenty-five, I put my typewriter in the closet. With my creative energy being spent at work, I became less prone to write. With children, I put aside my interest in enrolling in a creative writing program, which would have meant moving and attending university full-time.

God blessed Adam and Eve and gave them purpose—be fruitful and steward all of creation (Genesis 1:28). But because of their choice in the garden, eventually all of humanity was full of “great wickedness,” and God set out to destroy everything (Genesis 6:5-7)—except for those on the ark: Noah, his relatives, animals, and birds. 

And so He begins His plan again and restarts by charging Noah with the same purpose he gave Adam and Eve. Mankind has a second chance to fulfill the divine purpose of populating the earth and overseeing other creatures. 

My “Noah” moment came when my misdirected career choices sank into the sea of unfulfillment. Neither selling, managing, nor teaching engaged my psyche. They weren’t my calling. But through the grace of God’s blessing, I decided to write again and found writing poetry a way to express my deepest yearnings and spiritual feelings. 

Are you ignoring God’s blessing—His purpose for your life? Did you mess up your life projects because of unfortunate or misdirected choices that kept you from pursuing your purpose? 

There’s hope. God regenerated His purpose for mankind by blessing Noah with the same. He can restart yours in a “Noah moment.” With every “May God bless you,” I hear, “May He give you a restart on pursuing your life purpose.”
